  • The LAND is a non-fungible and highly scarce ERC721 asset that resides on ImmutableX (L2) on Ethereum, and can be sold or traded to anyone. It can be acquired at any point during official Ember Sword land sales or on whitelisted secondary marketplaces such as Token Trove, Immutable X.
  • LAND owners have complete control over what they build on their land, effectively changing the gameplay experience for all players in their areas. As an owner, you can choose to create a hub for players to farm special materials and resources or build an auction house or NPC for trading goods and items.
  • The Ember Sword on-chain ERC20 utility token is called EMBER, which is also used to trade the ERC721 collectibles, and can also be used to make in-game purchases.

At Bright Star Studios, we've carefully designed a player progression system in Ember Sword to harmoniously balance early, mid, and endgame experiences. In the initial and intermediate stages (until max level and the attribute cap), players focus on developing their character attributes, mastering weapon and crafting skills, and enhancing their items.

COMBAT MECHANICS: MOBAS MEET HACK-AND-SLASH

SEAMLESS BLEND OF PVE & PVP WITH CLEAR INDICATORS AND DYNAMIC ABILITIES

Ember Sword's combat experience draws inspiration from MOBA games like DotA 2 and League of Legends, as well as hack-and-slash games such as Hades. The game's pacing is more reminiscent of DotA 2, offering an exhilarating experience that includes both PvE and PvP combat.

During both PvE and PvP encounters, players will see ground indicators signaling impending damage, providing ample time to dodge and evade harm. This feature ensures players have a clear understanding of when and where damage will occur.

As players progress and level up their professions, they'll gradually unlock new combat abilities. This design choice avoids overwhelming newcomers with too many options and provides a clear goal for players to pursue.

In PvE combat, players can face challenges solo or in a party of up to four. Certain abilities can be chained together, increasing the chances of success. For example, one player might use a Chain Hook to pull in a creature, while another player follows up with a heavy strike to stun the target.

In non-PvP areas, death penalties are minimal; players don't lose items or XP and respawn in a safe zone. The game's focus isn't on punishing players but rather acknowledging that mistakes happen.

However, dying in a PvP area results in losing some loot, although this may be adjusted for balance. Upon death, players will respawn in a safe area, ready to continue their adventures in the expansive world of Ember Sword.

In Ember Sword, weapons are designed with unique abilities intrinsic to their specific type, rather than being tied to the player's character talents/skills. This system means that each weapon type has its own distinct set of capabilities: pistols offer specialized pistol abilities, swords enable hack-and-slash maneuvers, staves grant wizard-like powers, and censers provide a combination of melee and support (healing) abilities. In Ember Sword, Lords are players who have purchased a portion of the game's land. These players possess the unique ability to develop their domain by upgrading structures like taverns, which can bestow buffs upon all players in the area.

Ember Sword is a game that is not only captivating but also revolutionary in its use of both on-chain and off-chain items which shape our no pay-to-win gameplay design philosophy and solidify our player controlled economy.

We want Ember Sword to be a social place with a bustling and ever changing world. At its core, Ember Sword offers players a chance to own unique digital assets that are represented by non-fungible tokens (NFTs), also known as Collectibles. These Collectibles include digital cosmetics, emotes, and even land plots that can be owned, traded, and upgraded. Cosmetics and emotes are a crucial aspect of a player's visual identity within the game, while land ownership provides opportunities for players to shape the in-game world by unlocking new gameplay features and providing user services to other players.

Our unique digital in-game token is known as EMBER. EMBER is the primary on-chain token that drives the Ember Sword ecosystem, and it serves as a gateway to a world of exciting land ownership, cosmetic features, user services, and other unique digital collectibles. There are various ways to acquire EMBER, players can buy it on the market or trading collectibles. Landowners who provide access to marketplaces and trading for other players can also earn EMBER, making it a valuable resource that players must work to obtain.

When it comes to trading NFTs within the Ember Sword world, players can use an auction house structure, which functions similarly to any other MMORPG auction house. The auction house is an NPC placed by landowners on their plots of land, and users can search for Collectibles they desire or browse the offerings to purchase their favorite items. A minor fee is applied to each transaction, which is shared 50/50 between Bright Star Studios and the landowner(s) of that specific area.

Land in Ember Sword - Building a World for the Community

Thanabus is a place where the players come together to create a world that they can truly call their own. To make this vision a reality, we have allocated a total of around 150,000 plots of player-owned land to represent the non-PvP areas of the initial nations in the game. These plots of land provide more than just a piece of virtual real estate, they also hold the potential for greater community and collaboration among members of the same guild.

As a landowner in Ember Sword, you have the opportunity to not only build and shape your unique corner of the world but also to potentially earn rewards for your creativity and effort. One of the ways we aim to support this is by offering multiple monetization options for your land.

Landowners will also be able to place various buildings and NPCs and otherwise provide regular (not monetized) in-game services, which are not pay-to-win, but more meant as a way to help attract people to their unique land.

Balancing the demands of the academics with the needs of their general populace, as well as the requirements that come with loyalty to the Republic is no easy task and this fragile equilibrium stands on the brink of a stern test, as war drums echo with the impending campaign against Sevrend. Solarwood is a rich blend of diverse landscapes, each distinct in industry and inhabited by a colorful spectrum of residents, unraveling a world ripe for exploration and rich in unfolding narratives, compelling quests, enthralling dungeons and adrenaline filled PvP arenas.

Our previous Solarwood Land Sale sold out completely in a matter of hours, with the community pledging more than $200M for future sales — so we encourage those who are interested to be ready to act fast!

For our land sales, we introduced an industry-first community application process. We chose this approach to ensure that those players who would become landowners were committed to creating the best experience possible for themselves and those players who interact with their plots. Land ownership comes with many benefits, and our applicants were able to give us the feedback for how they would like to utilize the land and capitalize on their social features, making the landscape exciting for everyone who plays Ember Sword.

How Player Interactions Get Distributed To Landowners

For example: A player walks into a nearby plot of land and sees there’s a building with a collectible for sale that they own. They sell it for roughly $100 worth of EMBER tokens.

Fees are roughly broken down with 93% to the player, and the remaining 7% broken down as follows:

  • Landowners receive a distribution of 3.5%, 1% of which goes into a global reward (for all landowners) and 2.5% is given to landowners in the local area of the transaction pool
  • 3.5% Goes to Bright Star Studios to help fund the gameplay experience.

Every month, a limited amount of collectible cosmetics, ranging from complete sets to unique single items, is minted and unleashed into the world of Ember Sword. These coveted items can be discovered during thrilling encounters, won in exciting events, and more. They span the full spectrum of cosmetic types available in the game, ensuring a constant stream of fresh and exciting finds.

But here's the catch - this isn't an endless supply. When the month draws to a close, we turn the page and introduce a whole new collection of cosmetics. This means that once their time in the spotlight is over, these items will vanish from the drop pool. The only way to acquire these elusive treasures then is through trading with other players.

Our cosmetic release schedule isn't arbitrary - it's a living, breathing entity that responds to the heartbeat of the game. We gauge the amount of activity in the game, from Daily Active Users (DAU) to Monthly Active Users (MAU), and even the overall completion of game content. This ensures that our cosmetic releases are always in tune with the rhythm of Ember Sword, providing a dynamic and engaging experience for all our players. THE UTILITY OF DIGITAL COLLECTIBLES IN EMBER SWORD

In Ember Sword, we proudly refer to all in-game items such as skins, cosmetics, emotes, etc. collectively as "Collectibles". These collectible items bring out a player's creative flair, but they do not impact gameplay progression or give any competitive advantage to the owner.

Let's say a player obtains the ‘Sword of a Thousand Truths’ skin, while it will make you look stunningly remarkable, it won't give any skills, attributes or status that gives an edge in a battle.

We've designed the game with a player-first approach, and to make sure the players have control over their look, we've added various visible equipment slots, with more pieces to follow. This way, players can easily show off their personal style and rare finds.

Every collectible in Ember Sword is a limited edition item, with a set quantity that will never be restocked. From time to time, new collectibles will be introduced into the collectibles distribution cycle and then distributed through PvE and PvP objectives, tournaments, leagues, unique events and some through limited-time themed sales. When the supply runs out, it is completely out and these collectibles will only be achievable through trading with other players.

To achieve a collectible drop, all you need to do is play the game, have fun, vanquish mobs, defeat players, and through these events, you have a chance to gain drops, which will be digital collectibles, alongside the regular normal off-chain items in-game. As normal items, let's say weapons and armor, are not on-chain, we ensure that there is no pay-to-win in the game, and throughout intricate game design we on top will be monitoring for any automated activity and similar.

This rarity and finite quantity is what makes these game items collectible. Each item has a unique history, including its former owners, how it was first forged, events it might have “witnessed” and more. This means that every item is one-of-a-kind.

For players who want to own a particular collectible that's no longer in circulation, they'll have to buy it from other players using EMBER. Those who participate in the PvP and PvE player economy can earn Ember by acquiring collectibles through gameplay and selling them to others.

Additionally players can explore external marketplaces to see what other players have put up for sale or trade.

Fusing Collectibles To Trade-Up

Players can fuse together a number of collectibles of the same rarity, where the collectibles submitted will be burnt, meaning they are gone forever, and instead an upgraded collectible with one tier higher rarity will be given to the player in exchange.

This feature is meant to help fight inflation and deflation of the collectibles economy.

It will require some amount of EMBER tokens to fuse together collectibles. The amount is to be determined, but we can promise it will not be something of serious magnitude.

Bots: The Cat and Mouse Game

We also considered harmful bots, and bot farming when we initially came up with the strategy and concept for the game. If you have easily achievable collectibles or items, like in most MMORPGs, you will attract a horde of botters, and player farms to exploit these methods to gain a profit. However, by making items less of a chore, focusing more on gameplay and personal gameplay style, we severely hinder the use and need for bots.

Firstly, with our model these items will no longer be forced into black markets. And collectibles? Well, bots will have a tough time farming them, as they will require you to actively participate in the economy and the security measures that come with it. In addition to all of that, we also partnered with a leading AI firm to monitor to make sure we keep botting to an absolute minimum.

TOKEN ALLOCATION AND DISTRIBUTION

Our tokenomics exist in a symbiotic ecosystem with the game economy. 50% of the tokens will only be released through actual game mechanics. The remaining 50% are allocated as follows: 8% for advisors, 19% for the team, 6% for early token sales, 7% for reserves, and 10% for public token sales. All these allocations, except for the public token sale and reserves, are subject to a TGE+1 month, 4-year vesting period. We maintain control over the team allocations and have strict policies in place to prevent independent token sales by our employees.

Early Token Sales

6% (150,000,000) of all EMBER Tokens will be reserved for pre-sale purchasers, and subject to lockup vesting periods of TGE+1 month, and 4 years linear vesting.

Public Token Sales / Liquidity Pools

10% of all EMBER Tokens (250,000,000) will be available during the token crowdsale and networks for facilitating decentralized trading. This is including but not limited to IEO and subsequently listing on multiple exchanges for enhancing liquidity (launchpools/liquidity pools)

Game Rewards / Emissions

50% of all EMBER Tokens (1,250,000,000) reserved for the player economy and strategic partners for Ember Sword, including but not limited to artists, influencers, partnerships and community members who will be rewarded Tokens to incentivise and support building community projects.

Our current release model connects the release of game rewards related tokens to the DAU/MAU activities, player progression within the game, and game-related initiatives. This ensures that tokens are released as the game grows, further stabilizing the overall economy based on actual demand. We also have a grant system initiative we will introduce which supports content creation, and a loyalty/retention program, where token holders and/or players can lock up their tokens to earn rewards tied to the success of the game.

In addition to regular NFTs (Cosmetics) drops, EMBER would be given as a reward for example to the first teams completing new dungeons, high ranking players in arenas and tournaments, and for completing achievements, events and other fun objectives in the game.

7% of all EMBER Tokens (175,000,000) will be retained and work as company reserves to support and stabilize the EMBER Token ecosystem.

Unsold Tokens & Vesting

  • Unsold EMBER Tokens from the pre-sales will be made available during the Public Token Sale.
  • Tokens distributed to founders, the team and advisors etc, are subject to a 4-year lockup period, with TGE + 1 month, with linear vesting following. Token Genesis Event is expected within 12 months.
  • Should we choose not to utilize/sell all the reserved tokens for private/community they would be distributed into the reserves.

Securing the Proceeds From The Public Token Sale (TGE)

Proceeds collected through the Public Sale (TGE) will initially be stored in a multi-sig secure wallet. This means that all outgoing transactions will have to be verified by multiple executives based in different locations within the organization.

Finally the proceeds will be spread out as highly stable and recognised currencies, but also within different institutional partners including SIFI approved banks and government secured institutions.

ECONOMIC POLICY

Dynamic Token Release Model

We have designed a dynamic token release model that is closely tied to the game's growth and player activities. This model ensures that tokens are released as the game grows, further stabilizing the overall economy based on actual demand.

Our release model is directly connected to Daily Active Users/Monthly Active Users (DAU/MAU) activities, player progression within the game, and game-related initiatives such as influencer partnerships. In simpler terms, if the DAU/MAU is lower on a given month, the circulation of the EMBER token is lower - and vise verse.

Programmatic Deflationary / Inflationary Policy

In our commitment to maintaining a balanced and dynamic economy, we have designed a programmatic Deflationary/Inflationary policy that works in tandem with a Burn and Mint Equilibrium mechanism. This dual approach allows us to manage the total supply of 2.5 billion tokens effectively.

A key component of this strategy is a programmatic burn mechanism. This mechanism is designed to induce scarcity by burning a percentage of the rewards/emission pool. The burn rate is carefully calculated to maintain balance in the economy and is adjusted based on the number of active players and the overall economic activity within the game.

Simultaneously, we have a minting process in place to support the game economy. New tokens are minted at a calculated rate, which is planned not to exceed 5% annually. This minting process is expected to come into full effect once all the tokens have been allocated.

It's important to note that the burn rate can vary between -5% and 5% annually. For instance, in 2025, we may set the burn rate at 1.2%, which would result in 1.2% of the token supply being burned.

In addition to the Game Rewards and Emission Allocation System, we have implemented control mechanisms to stabilize the token supply and demand. These mechanisms ensure that our token economy remains robust and resilient, providing a stable foundation for the growth and development of Ember Sword.

Cosmetic Merging: Enhancing Scarcity and Uniqueness

In our pursuit of creating a unique and engaging player experience, we have implemented a cosmetic merging system. This system allows players to combine multiple cosmetics of the same type into a higher-tier cosmetic within the same line. For instance, a player can merge six Tier 1 cosmetics into a single Tier 2 cosmetic. This process results in the original six Tier 1 cosmetics being burned, and a new Tier 2 cosmetic being minted.

This merging process serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it induces deflation in the cosmetic supply, thereby increasing the scarcity of higher-tier cosmetics. Secondly, it enhances the uniqueness of higher-tier cosmetics, providing players with the opportunity to differentiate themselves and express their individuality in the game world.

Each merging step requires a fixed amount of EMBER tokens. These tokens are then reintroduced into the game economy through in-game objectives or sold to players. Alternatively, they may be burned as part of our overall economic deflation strategy. This approach ensures that our token economy remains balanced and robust, while also providing players with a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

Tokenomics Conclusion

We intend on continuing to build out the economic system of the game, meaning that we will continue to reiterate and make sure all our tokenomics and economy designs are working as intended, as we similar are looking to expand onto it. There are many features we wish to add post the initial launch as the game grows together with its player base.

Outperforming Legacy Technology By Design

In the early 2000s both CPUs and Memory were slow. Over the next 20 years, CPU got so much faster (100x+), however, Memory still remained slow (~3x of what it was in the early 2000s). Instead of optimizing software for memory, we optimize for the CPU. This requires a significantly different way of programming. All popular engines today are built in the ‘legacy way’ (Object-Oriented Programming which utilizes memory over CPU) which heavily limits performance gains. A data-driven design is better than object-oriented design for game development because it allows for efficient processing of large amounts of data, leading to better performance on CPUs and greater flexibility.
